Somehow we forgot to tell the internet that we have a photo exhibition. Maybe it was because about 600 people RSVP’d to our invite to the opening and we freaked out about having enough free drinks. Anyway, the free drinks are gone now, so if you actually want to see the photos, rather than just get pissed near them, then go to theprintspace on Kingsland Road. The show includes photographs from our Photo Issue, as well as some extras we threw in there for you. There is work from Richard Kern, Maggie Lee, Peter Sutherland, Dana Goldstein and our very own Ben Rayner, Alex Sturrock and Jonnie Craig – as well as a load of others.

Photo Issue Extra - Behind the scene of “Nudes sans tattoos”
Angela Boatwright asked me to be one of the girls featured in her fashion spread for the Photo Issue. Having worked a slew of jobs in the fashion industry, I’ve been on my share of shoots – and none were as fun as getting naked with a bunch of other chicks in Spencer Sweeny’s Lower East Side loft (Sweeny was not there to witness the singular pleasure of an apartment full of primping soon-to-be naked girls. He was banished.) In a phone call beforehand, Angela explained to me that it was accessories-themed, featuring a handful of girls wearing nothing but belts and shoes. There were only two rules: no tattoos and no bush.
Photo Issue Extras - Will Govus
I don’t remember how I came across Will Govus’s photos of fog and light fooling around like babysitters and boyfriends on a couch made of sky but I do remember thinking “Why didn’t I think of this?” and “Any chance of me ever thinking I’m a decent photographer is now long gone.” And to make me feel even worse, Will is still in his teens. I guess that means he’s too old now to be called a prodigy, and frankly, that word always makes me think of Doogie Howser. Whatever that young genius thing is, though, he’s got it.
The Photo Issue Launch party. With added cameras, babes, and hunks
To launch our lovely 2009 edition of the Photo Issue we have got a handful of bands to play the Old Blue Last. The Photo Issue includes work from the likes of Ryan McGinley, Terry Richardson, Harry Benson, Catherine Opie, Stephen Shore and Richard Kern, to name a few. Alongside their work are photos from the Czechoslovakian Secret Service archives, bluesmen backstage, Nazis chilling out, and Doug Biggert’s amazing hitchhiker portraits. Playing at the party will be An Albatross, Pulled Apart by Horses and Betty Pariso. As always, it’s free, so come along. Plus, if you are coming bring a camera, then use it to take photos, and then send them to photos@viceuk.com (by 4pm on Friday), and in a tokenistic gesture of artistic democracy, we’ll put some of them on the photo blog. Oh, and there’s bound to be at least one babe or hunk there.
Meet the Nieratkos - Photo reject
Do you know that routine with the football that Lucy would pull on Charlie Brown? Where she yanks it away each and every time he runs to kick it so he eats shit? That’s basically how my relationship is with Vice. And I’m stupid Charlie Brown.
