Tonight, for one night only, Dad’s Night moves to the Old Blue Last. If you are bored of hearing indie music and 90s rap music every time you leave the house then go to this and listen to people playing classic rock. DJs include William Trill, Stevie Nudist, Skill Wizard, Chris Maaan and Sophie Titwank. Anyone who requests any funky will get warm beer all over them, just a heads up. Click below to see the flyer. VBS screening at the Old Blue Last
Earlier this year we hosted a night at the Curzon in Soho, where we screened some of the best stuff from VBS.TV (as well as the breathtakingly brilliant documentary Streetwise) and it was very nice indeed. So we’re doing something very similar on 11 October at the Old Blue Last.
There will be free popcorn and cheap booze and you will get to watch a selection of our favourite recent VBS stuff. Check below for full details. Read more »
Freshers’ party tonight at the Old Blue Last
Hey freshers, don’t stay at home tonight sobbing about your cat Tiddles, who you won’t see till half term. Instead, come to the Old Blue Last because we are having a party just for you. There will be DJ sets from We Love Boys, Sam O’Sulivan, DJ Francoise and Russ Tannen. Plus – and this is the bit you are really going to like – there’s 25 per cent off everything at the bar, and free sambuca for everyone.
There’s a party for fans of films tonight, so let’s get loose
To celebrate the launch of our Film Issue, tonight we will be having a live audience with Terry Jones, Dario Argento, and Gaspar Noe. Not really, but we will have some bands playing, some free shots, and cheap drinks as usual. The Cheek and Youthless are playing live, while a bevy of people we know and got to DJ for cheap will be playing whatever they like with little regard for the audience’s feelings. And it’s free, of course. Those who arrive dressed up as gay superheroes get in even free-er, so see you there! Read more »
Party at the Old Blue Last tonight, with free booze
Presumably to celebrate the fact that someone has painted the outside of the Old Blue Last to make it look like an erotic, jungle-themed play pen, tonight, from 8 till 10, the OBL are kindly offering you FREE BOOZE. Let’s face it, you’re going to go, I’m going to go, I mean, what else did you have planned tonight? I had tickets to watch my friend’s stand-up show, but bollocks to him and his Paddy Ashdown impression, I’m going to get smashed and leer at people and dance on the bar till 12.30 AM. At which point I’ll probably walk home and call my ex-girlfriend to tell her what a bitch she is. And then I’m going to have a bath. You can come and watch that if you like.
Get drunk for cheap tonight
We had a shit load of bands set to play at the Old Blue tonight but all of them now have swine flu. Thanks “global village”! So instead we are getting all our friends to DJ. Good deal for you guys, right? On top of that, we have about 300 free shots, and all pints and house spirit/mixer combos are £2.50. Playing lovely music will be Goodbye! Mother, King BB, William Trill, DJ Matalan, and a load of our other buddies. If you like drinking and are fairly unpicky about what you listen to then this is, like, totally perfect for you.
The Photo Issue Launch party. With added cameras, babes, and hunks
To launch our lovely 2009 edition of the Photo Issue we have got a handful of bands to play the Old Blue Last. The Photo Issue includes work from the likes of Ryan McGinley, Terry Richardson, Harry Benson, Catherine Opie, Stephen Shore and Richard Kern, to name a few. Alongside their work are photos from the Czechoslovakian Secret Service archives, bluesmen backstage, Nazis chilling out, and Doug Biggert’s amazing hitchhiker portraits. Playing at the party will be An Albatross, Pulled Apart by Horses and Betty Pariso. As always, it’s free, so come along. Plus, if you are coming bring a camera, then use it to take photos, and then send them to photos@viceuk.com (by 4pm on Friday), and in a tokenistic gesture of artistic democracy, we’ll put some of them on the photo blog. Oh, and there’s bound to be at least one babe or hunk there.
Technology Issue Launch
The Technology Issue is here. If you wanted to know about switching monkeys’ heads while they are alive, home made sex toys, smuggling drugs in submarines or the terrifyingly desperate lives of Dubai’s construction-worker army then go here. We are having a party to celebrate tomorrow (Thursday) at the Old Blue Last. Playing live are Male Bonding, Internet Forever and Thee Fair Ohs and DJ sets from Fervent Moon, Get Me, and Flat 11. As always, it’s free, so see you there.
