THE KLF BURNED IT ALL

klf
It’s not too early in the year to start making calls on what may possibly be the most outrageous pop-culture related act that took place this year, although it wouldn’t have mattered if this happened in February–it’d still take the cake. A couple months ago the acid house-damaged KLF burned a million quid, which is approximately all their profits from the past few years of hard work in extravagant stage productions and tedious hours of sitting in a studio popping out hit songs.

Internship available!

121
Everyone has an intern these days. I feel like the only person left in this socially bankrupt world without an overeducated personal servant. I can’t go on like this. I’m just far too busy and important to not have a slave. I don’t do this without any degree of guilt. After all, the only people who can afford to work for free – thus climbing the economic ladder and becoming successful – are middle-class, bourgeois scum who get handed money from their parents. So, unfortunately, whoever is lucky enough to get the position and meet my powerful friends will probably already be posh and minted. Apply beneath.

Obscenity, who really cares? John Calder keeps on keeping on

John Calder

INTERVIEW BY HUW NESBITT
PORTRAIT BY TARA SINN, WITH A PHOTO BY BEN RAYNER

John Calder is the retired owner of one of Britain’s most fiercely independent publishers, Calder Publishing. It’s telling that he decided to name the company after himself as his endearing willfulness made him one of the most litigated-against publishers of the mid-20th century. Calder relished controversy, publishing 90 per cent of Samuel Beckett’s output as well as William Burroughs in the UK when no one else would touch him.

Not Fit To Print - The Jealousy Story

hunk

We got this story in from a model with dreamy eyes who “manscapes” every day before slathering himself in self-tanner and kissing his muscles poolside. He’s really popular with the ladies, and can goose hot ass freely—and with nary a word of conversation, no less—since he’s so in tune with the finer nuances of the female psyche. For instance, as he posits in a mind-expanding conjecture, “Women, when driven by rage or jealousy, are willing to do irrational things, willing to throw their standards and self-respect out the window to prove a greater point.” Actually, we have no idea if that’s actually what he’s looks like–that’s just what his personality projects, and that’s us being nice. Probably he’s a pasty horny dweeb with greasy hair, a patchy beard, glasses with lenses too thick for their frames—basically a comic book geek who thinks he’s a writer, toiling the long nights by the glow of his computer screen in a dorm room. We’re going to spare him his byline so as not to blow his cover as he stealthily navigates the world of getting trim. The first paragraph (or even sentence) kind of says it all, but we’re also including the whole long-winded, appalling thing. Enjoy!
