Swansea has seen a 178 percent jump in registered heroin users over the last four years. Somewhat unusually, it is the supply that is driving the demand, as the high unemployment made the lucrative profession of dealing drugs more attractive than ever. Directed by Leo Leigh and Andy Capper, Swansea Love Story, the newest installment of the Rule Britannia series, follows young heroin users in the city, their families and their daily routines. The film will be premiering at the ICA on 8 December. Go here for tickets (they’re free, but limited.) Click through for the trailer.

What gives a trendy London magazine the right to come down here and exploit this city’s drug problem? It’s no different from any other town or city in the UK. I lived in London for years and my shop stocked your magazine - it’s written by and read exclusively by Shoreditch wankers. Leave Swansea alone. “A cheap holiday in other people’s misery”.

Anonymous (11 Dec) - this film shows EXACTLY what Swansea is like. I’ve lived in may UK cities and none were as bad as Swansea for heroin use. This film isn’t exploiting the city but showing what it’s really like. That’s why I left. I go back from time to time and it just gets worse and worse. That’s the REALITY.

Dear Anonymous. Wait till you see the film. i saw it at the ICA and it’s beautiful and in no way exploitative. I’m from Swansea myself and I think it’s important that this was made.

If you look at the numbers (the ratio or percent of people who are heroin addicts in the total city population) Swansea is one of the worst cities in the UK for junkies
