THE VICE PHOTO BOOK

PhotobookThe VICE Photo Book just came out and it is a fucking tome. The thing is 11×14, weighs a good eight pounds, and is filled with all of our favorite pictures and fashion spreads and photo stories from the past ten years of the magazine. It’s also got new stuff like long, in-depth interviews with the photographers who made us like pictures and helped shape our aesthetic, three separate histories of photography in Vice, and probably even more. In short we have put together a huge, glossy monolith of eye-food that will suck away hours of your life as it constricts the blood vessels in your lap. We shouldn’t even have to mention how good it looks on a coffee table with crap strewn all over it. Buy the book here. Pretty big coincidence this coming out right before Christmas, isn’t it? [cough]

TORONTO – JOLLIFICATION SHOW/ DENNIS CHOW HATES PORN

Dchowsix2 We like illustrator Dennis Chow. He’s funny, works insanely fast and always comes back with something weirder, more perverted and invariably better than what you originally had in your head. Once, we asked him to illustrate a gang of Chinese kids who hacked a German family to death in Nanjing and he got reeeeeally excited. Maybe too excited. But that’s why we like him. His style is sort of like Daniel Clowes if he was an illustrator for Satanic children’s books.

TalkmugWhile other publications seek out interviews with the who’s who of politics, economics and whatever the hell else people care about these days (can you interview the environment?), we prefer to chat about the more pressing issues of the day, like facial hair, piss-pots, stupid tattoos, taxidermy and straight-to-DVD action movies. Here are our top ten other interviews from 2007…

TELL ME WHAT IT’S WORTH

The new music video for "Tell Me What It’s Worth" is a perfect fit for Lightspeed Champion’s melancholy but sweetly melodic pop gem. We tried to talk to director Saam Farahmand, but he’s busy in New York shooting a video for his hero Janet Jackson. We did manage to get hold of Lightspeed Champion (aka Dev Hynes) and Akiko from Comanechi, who makes a cameo appearance…

WHOOPSIE! JESUS FUCKS UP

Mikey
Good news guys: Doomsday didn’t happen! The moment the world was supposed to end - midnight on October 31st 2007 - slipped by while we were out trick-or-treating. We bet the guy who made this prediction - our old pal Michael Travesser aka The Messiah - that if Armageddon didn’t happen he would have to buy us a beer while we piss in his face. We totally forgot to take him up on that. Anyways, because we slept on the Son of God’s goof up on Halloween, we’re looking forward to watching The End of the World Cult tomorrow night. The documentary follows
Travesser and his 56 disciples on the dreaded date. We cannot wait to
see the looks on their faces when they all do the countdown, hold their breath, squeeze shut their eyes and … whoops!

AUSTRALIA - EXCLUSIVE ‘THE DARJEELING LIMITED’ BEHIND THE SCENES CLIPS

Darjeeling_2You may remember us promising you that we would have some exclusive behind the scenes clips from the making of your new favourite movie (trust us it will be), Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited. The clips are now up on the trailer site and well worth checking out. You can bemuse yourself with the perils of using a rickshaw to film the overcrowded streets of an Indian city, what it looks like when a whole film crew has to wear turbans to film inside a Sikh temple and how Owen Wilson ingeniously pulls off that perfect limp. The film will be released in cinemas across Australia on the 26th December. To view the clips, click your vermin here.
