Silverio is the hottest thing to come out of old Mexico since being kidnapped by a gang of street kids. With the motto "Mucho Macho Poco Brain", his live show sees him strip off to electro synth alongside a team of gyrating dancers - one of whom is a former Playboy Queen of Mexico. Silverio’s releases, on the Nuevos Ricos label, have been banned by MTV, Telehit and most TV channels after a performance at Mexico City’s Modern Art Museum was broken up by police.

Mucho Mayo, WTF IS THIS? Why did the police get involved, did he try to perform a donkey show or something? I think its only legal to perform donkey shows in some special zoned areas of mexico city…

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Silverio is a rich hipster from Mexico City, playing the “poor is cool” thing. It’s all very contrived.

I don’t care if he’s rich or stone broke. He’s got a good sound and a good gimmick.

It’s all that white trash/electro gimmick of 2001, but in Mexico. That’s it, there’s nothing more than that.
But Silverio sure starts a party, I have seen him a couple times in NY and he destroys the place.

Let me break it down for all of you…
Silverio is part of Nuevos Ricos, an independent artsy label based out of Mexico City. He was/is in Titan, but he’s not in Maria Daniela or anything with Lasser attached to it. That’s Emilo, the other dude from Titan. Also, there is Jay de la Cueva, the third guy from Titan that was once in Microchips, Fobia and now is the front man of Moderatto.
If you know anything about the indie scene in latin america, you know Silverio. I don’t know what’s up with the dude that’s been living in DF for however long and hasn’t heard of him. He must be in Tepito or some shit.
Silverio isn’t a super rich hipster. That’s retarded. I’ve met him before and the dude is wayyy cool.
His music/humor/performance, in a way, is very mexican blue collar and he does it very well. I wouldn’t expect many anglo kids to get it because 1) They aren’t from 3rd world countries thus don’t get some of the vulgarities/referrences, 2) Don’t know shit about that scene - people don’t expect this kind of stuff from places like Mexico so when they see it, it clashes and challenges their embedded ideal of what latin music is. 3) They haven’t seen it live. He’s a fucking amazing one man show.
Does it take from Mexican Naco-chic? Yes, duh. But who else should be taking from it if not a kid FROM Mexico who’s fucking live it his whole life.
