Arctic Monkeys played a one-off secret gig last night at the Old Blue Last. We filmed the whole thing and will be uploading clips over the next few days on the website. The band performed ten songs in their 40 minute set, including their new single "Leave Before The Lights Come On".

Even though the event was totally secret, 200 people including Statik, Harmony Korine, Jason Spaceman, Peaches Geldof and Samantha Morton (weird crowd, eh?) packed into the live room upstairs, barging each other, spilling beer and pointing their camera-phones at the biggest band in the world right now.
The Monkeys jet off on a huge American tour tomorrow and needed a bit of a warm up. Their bassist, Andy, unexpectedly quit last week citing "exhaustion". The new guy, Nick O’Malley, has been busy learning all of their songs over the past few days but still sounded tight.

i always like the original versions of arctic monkeys songs before they rerecord them and change the lyrics. cigarette smoke is much better than cigarette smoker fiona, and the lyrics in the demo of riot van are better than the ones on the album. those are the only two examples i can think of mind
