If you haven’t already heard Dark Meat is a 17-piece psychedelic rock collective from Athens, Georgia who sound like the Stooges meets Crazy Horse meets Albert Ayler
– double drums, shredding guitars, jazz bursts, gospel vocals and
marching band horns! Dark Meat lives together, eats together and makes
music together, the true meaning of collective - several members live
in Orange Twin, a 100-acre sustainable-living eco-village, where
members farm, do bio-diesel conversion and host shows at their
amphitheater. For three years, Dark Meat has thrilled crowds with
earth-shaking, hallelujah-roaring performances throughout the South.
Now, we are ready to let a true Southern gem shine.

MONDAY Bloc Party had a huge year doing all the stuff huge rock bands do, like touring arenas and playing with orchestras. October 27 could have been the highlight of all, collaborating with a choir at the BBC Electric Proms session. Defying doctor’s orders Kele put his gut into this one, and although these recording don’t do the night justice, but you hear the ambition and adventure in the music, and the electricity in the room. "Song For Clay (Disappear Here)" turns hymnal, and "Waiting For The 718" is an avalanche of vocals and guitar lines.

SUNDAY With all the terrible Bloc Party remixes, covers, and mash ups out there (you know who you are), these first two take the prize for 2007. We’re almost sorry to give them more play here but the stink is already out there. Finger snapper ‘n’ looper KT Tunstall seems like a nice enough person, and it was sweet of her to shout out "The Prayer" in The New York Times and to any reporter in 100 yards. But this is laughably flaccid and desperate. Of course at least she’s not Fergie. Death to DJ Schmolli, conjurer of this nugget of pure evil.
The next two aren’t necessary bad but don’t add much to the dialogue. Perennial Bloc Party opening act Final Fantasy does an anemic but sweet enough love version of "This Modern Love" and Slowbear The Great from Norwich/Colchester (sounds like a terrible place mate!) does "Banquet" as nice-guy lullaby of harmonies, systematically removing every last bit of sex from the song.

FRIDAY
We’re starting off the final Bloc Party week of 2007 with two of the best remixes made for A Weekend In The City. Burial’s second album is even better than his great first one, breaking dubstep out of its cold cage and opening up the genre to a world of soul and emotion. His mix of Bloc Party’s "Where Is Home" could sit easily on Untrue as one of the album’s more accessible tracks. In it, Burial zeroes in on the profound isolation and sadness buried beneath the fierce anger in the best protest song of 2007.
New Norwegian space-disco cadet Diskjokke introduces himself with an epic cure for Bloc Party’s woozy hangover love song. Diskjokke’s a disciple of Prins Thomas and M.A.N.D.Y, and a core of Oslo’s genre-birthing club night Sunkissed. At over ten minutes long, this is a completely original and largely instrumental composition, with great moments of 70s strobe light disco, Italo-house ecstasy, and Underworld trance house. Kele’s voice subtly pours down love at just the right moments.

When the Black Lips first starting sending in music of the new stuff they were working on, one of the immediate favorite was “Veni Vidi Vici.” It’s just so sexy and different from what you’d expect to come from the mind of Cole Alexander. For some reason listening to this song makes us want to wear tassles. So it makes sense that when shifting through new songs to remix, Diplo would settle on this guy. Now instead of just one Cole, there’s a whole choir, the vibraslap is all over the place and there is enough grunting and driving beat to make you need some alone time.

Well, we all knew it had to end, but it was fun while it lasted. Today sees the end of the Chromeo Jaxxy Take Over Week. We hope it was as good for you as it was for us. Cause it was a motherlovin party over here this week. Today we present the Sinden remix of “Tenderoni” featuring Kid Sister. There’s a pretty magical family with A-Track, Chromeo and Kid Sister percolating and Kid Sister’s verse on this track elevates the ‘roni to whole new levels. Grab this tune and pump it while you give those booty shorts one more weekend in the sun.

Today we bring you another interpretation of “Bonafied Lovin” straight from David Wolf. There’s a decidedly 80s feel to this jam that makes us think that David Wolf, Dave and P have some secret understanding of Duran Duran and Dire Straights that the rest of us can only strive for. On the other hand, this Sammy Bananas remix of “Tenderoni” brings us back to the glorious 00 when you couldn’t drink a beer without hearing “I got a fever. And the only prescription, is more cowbell.”

By the time the seductive “step step, step step” comes in on this Dr J mashup of Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control” and Chromeo’s “Tenderoni,” we all sort of loose our minds and start spontaneous dance parties at our desks over here in Brooklyn. Between all the Justice action and these Chromeo remixes, we’ve become excellent chair dancers. Like, maybe even competitive level. Making us want to bust a move on one of those rainbow light-up dance floors a la the Har Mar disco-off in the Starsky & Hutch flick is Mercurius FM’s remix of “Tenderoni.” We can see the neon already.

We were sitting around yesterday with MTV on Mute through Parental Control and then excitedly blasting and rewinding and rewatching Chromeo’s 52/52 segments. Seriously. It was kind of completely awesome seeing Chromeo on MTV - hanging in Jimmy Jazz, doing karaoke, performing on top of a bus - the usual. We love the performance of “Bonafied Lovin” with Times Square as the backdrop, which you can check out here. We also love this DJ Eli remix of “Bonafied Lovin” with Pase Rock dropping a verse into the mix so snuggly it feels like he and Dave 1 have been dishing about triflin girls for years.

LA Riots has remixed the likes of Justice, the Cure, Mystery Jets and Kid Sister, but forgive us if we think this remix of “Bonafied Lovin” isn’t one of the best things we’ve heard in a minute. It’s sparking quite the dance party in our little corner of Brooklyn. Come back every day this week for more funked up Chromeo nuggets - along with taking over MTV’s 52/52, Chromeo’s taking over Jaxxy this week, and we couldn’t be more ready to bust a move.

Our favorite bloody headed, mosh inducing, epic track producing, maladjusted hard core group, Fucked Up, tried their hand at Justice’s “Stress.” While Justice’s version makes us feel like we’re in a cathedral full of robots, Fucked Up makes us want to tear the robots apart limb from limb and rebuild a Mad Max world with their insides.

As we anxiously await what 120 Days comes up with on their new record, they give us the Sedated Times EP. It’s 7 tracks of tranced-out, head-bobbing, dance-inducing deliciousness. If you saw them on any of their shirtless tour dates, you heard “So This Is Suicide,” and very likely heard this jam, “Justine.” World, meet Justine.

If Tim Burton were to score a Christmas movie about robots instead of ghoulish skeleton characters, CFCF’s Six Pack remix of “Phantom” would be a shoo-in for the forlorn love scene. There’s just something about the track that sounds like pale broken hearts wrapped in tinsel. Or maybe that’s just us. Sticking with the removed robotic dark theme, today’s “D.A.N.C.E.” remix comes courtesy of Ed Ward B Dark. It’s like the children’s chorus is stuck inside a lava lamp and when all the fun bits congeal the Wicked Witch of the East is going to send her monkeys for you. But in the fun way.

We’ve been pumping † in our office for a while now, but today we get to share it with the world. Chock full of sing songy choruses, thick ass beats, pounding drums, bleeps, bloops and awesome, this is a bite sized piece of the decadence that is †. We also have a sweet little video for you today with the art of So Me with a decidedly Darth Vader feel to it. Happy Justice day! Et Justice Pour Tous!

We kick Justice Jaxxy week off with a down right nasty turn from Spankrock. Jonesing for a Justice beat with popsicles, pussies, and Kelly Bundy name checks? Have we got the dirty ass track for you. "Tunderous Bumps", for your pleasure. If you’ve been missing new "D.A.N.C.E." remixes, we’ve got your cure. Plus Move Pirate gave us a sliced up re-interpretation of the jam that has us walking around going "1-2-3-1-2-3" all day. Check them both and we’ll see you tomorrow for release day as Justice Jaxxy Week continues.

We ended Bloc Party week with a Madonna mash up, so why not end Justice week with a mad robotic remix of Madonna and the rapidly deteriorating Britney Spears’ “Me Against the Music.” Like heavy breathing and skuzzy beats? Justice made this mix for you. Today’s “D.A.N.C.E.” remix comes from Doudi and starts all like this and ends up all like this.
We hope you enjoyed Justice Jaxxy Take Over week. Now grab all these delicious MP3s, toss them on your iPod, a CDR or whatever your ears desire, and hit the road. Play it loud. Play it proud.

Throw in some heavy breathing, some shakers, some thumping bass, some descending keyboard lines and you go from a sexy N.E.R.D. tune to a downright dirty Justice reinterpretation of “She Wants To Move.” In today’s “D.A.N.C.E.” remix, Charlie Fanclub will have you walking around singing “Do! D! D!” all day. This remix takes each part of the song that we love so and cuts it up and puts it on repeat. In some instances under some influences, we can see dancing to this track on a loop all night long. Glow sticks would likely be involved.

When we first heard Waters of Nazareth we couldn’t believe how big, fat and nasty it sounded. It sounded almost too much for headphones. Like the only way you could really understand the tune was to stand in a room filled with lots of other people and let the bass shake the floor and everyone around you in some podiatric group orgasm. When Justice got their hands on Mr. Oizo’s “Nazis,” the beats got fatter, the noise got sludgier and our insides got meltier. On a less sinister note, today’s “D.A.N.C.E.” remix comes courtesy of Tittsworth. If you giggle at the name like any good 13 year old boy would, just wait til you hear how our man Tittsworth took one of the most jubilant dance songs we’ve heard in eons and made it even more playful. And you didn’t think it was possible.

It was almost a year ago when Spin christened Justice the “next Daft Punk.” We like to think that Justice are blazing their own unique, bass thumping, ass shaking way, but we accept the compliment on their behalf. It just so happens that in today’s installment, we have Justice reworking Daft Punk’s seminal jam “Human After All.” After you get mad robotic, check out today’s “D.A.N.C.E.” remix from Blaze. On his “Nightmarish Remix” he does all sorts of fun things to spelling.

VICE HQ has gone from shouting “We! Are! Your! Friends!” all last summer to have the new refrain become “Do the Dance! Do the Dance!” Justice has taken over the collective yelpings of our corner of the world, and who can blame us? It’s damn near the catchiest thing around these days. As the kids say, “Stick to the B.E.A.T. get ready to ignite.” OK. So we sound like the weirdos hanging out in the balcony at Studio 54, but just try to deny this stuff. datA has remixed everyone from Snoop Dogg to Kiss to Nelson, check out what happened to “D.A.N.C.E.” when datA got their hands in the mix.

Happy Friday! Here’s a week-ender for Bloc Party Jaxxy week that is perfect to blast with the windows (or roof if you’re lucky) down, feet out the window, road soda in hand and sun beating down on you. It’s a little bit “Helicopter,” it’s a little bit “Get Into The Groove.” It’s a little Bloc Party, it’s a little DJ Schmolli, it’s a lot Madonna. While the bass drum thump on the original sounds more like “The Prayer,” there is a certain something about Bloc Party’s cover of Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right,” that sounds…well…just about perfect. With Russell’s signature swirling guitars and the expanded range we’ve come to admire in Kele’s vocals, this cover takes over a life of its own from this Radio One broadcast.

When master remixers like Chromeo have their own songs taken for a spin, you know you’re in for a good time. Dirty robot rockers Guns N Bombs got their claws on “Fancy Footwork” from the upcoming Chromeo album by the same title and the results are down right freak-out inducing.
“The cops are coming to arrest us for being too funky.” Yup. That’s what the fellas were thinking about when “Fancy Footwork” was born. Hear all about the track here, pump the remix and terrorize your town.

We’ve been pumping the new Chromeo record, Fancy Footwork (out June 19) pretty much every morning in the VICE offices. The new record is usually followed with some Rick Springfield or Supertramp, if that gives any indication of what this record can do for you. We sat down Dave 1 and Pee Thugg to introduce the new record. You can listen to “Fancy Footwork” and “Tenderoni” and you can watch a hot and sweaty live performance of “Tenderoni.” If you listen to “Fancy Footwork” and don’t feel the insatiable need to go buy a white suit and drive around in a Ferrari Spyder, you need some summertime fun, stat.

DJ Mehdi is a very nice fellow. His new record, Lucky Boy is a party, it’s mad robotic, it’s sex, drums and beats & blues and sweaty nights turning into crazed mornings. We’ve already introduced you to “I Am Somebody” by DJ Mehdi featuring Chromeo, now hear the Lucky Boy version of “Signatune.” We’ll be releasing an extended version of the final track on the record “Signatune” (Thomas Bangalter edit) later on with a vid, but enjoy this track now, would you?
