STAG & DAGGER CLOUDCAST #8

There’s only a couple of weeks left to go before the big day, but don’t think that means that we haven’t got some more brilliant exclusive mixes left for you to download! This time it’s the turn of Rich Thane, founder and editor of The Line Of Best Fit, to take to the decks, with another mix that shows off a multitude of talent that will be on display at Stag & Dagger. Rich describes the mix as an hour-long playlist of tracks that you might expect to hear on The Line Of Best Fit’s office stereo, which sounds infinitely preferable to the muffled sounds of Paloma Faith album filtering through on loop from the household above the Stag & Dagger offices.

There’s tracks from Stag & Dagger artists Summer Camp, Active Child, Banjo Or Freakout, Allez Allez and Cate Le Bon (the latter will be playing TLOBF stage alongside Sweet Baboo and Lupen Crook); a few choice favourites from the likes of Yuck, Magic Man, Korallreven, Twin Sister and Museum Of Bellas Artes; as well as a couple of m-a-s-s-i-v-e songs that should have been worldwide dancefloor fillers but… weren’t (Addeboy vs Cliff and Emil & Friends). And finally, right slap bang in the middle is Rich’s pick for single of 2010 so far, taken from his pick for album of 2010… so far. It’s “Heaven’s On Fire” by The Radio Dept., and after the glowing review we gave it a few weeks ago HERE, who are we to disagree?

STAG & DAGGER LONDON FINAL LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

With just over two weeks to go until S&D kick off, we can now announce the final line-up for the London leg of the festival, which can be viewed by clicking on the LINE-UP page. You’ll be able to see which promoters are hosting which venues, and the artist line-ups for each of them. We’ve also added the final list of acts to the line-up, including massive recent announcements Miike Snow, who will be playing a DJ set at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, as well as other highlights such as Pulled Apart By Horses, We Have Band and Little Boots! Hurrah!

PULLED APART BY HORSES ANNOUNCED!

Our latest announcement to this year’s line up, Pulled Apart By Horses, are curious chaps. They’re best known for their live performances, which are so violently energetic that they often leave the band members riddled with injuries (or even hospitalised, on occasion). On top of that, song titles  like “I Punched a Lion in the Throat” point to the sort of tongue-in-cheek ultra-machismo that Chuck Norris would likely come up with if he traded roundhouse kicks for electric guitars.

For further evidence of their brass balls you need only look at their recent release – a limited 12” vinyl featuring tracks recorded live at their gig at The Packhorse in Leeds earlier this March. The release pays homage to one of the superlative live albums – The Who’s “Live at Leeds” from 1970. It takes confidence to try and match up with what many consider the best live rock album of all time, and Pulled Apart By Horses clearly have it in abundance, emulating everything from the artwork right down to the inclusion of a setlist and photo print.

You’ll be able to catch Pulled Apart By Horses playing at the SEXBEAT stage at Stag & Dagger on 21st May.

All you have to do to win is go over to the Resident Advisor website and answer the following the question:

What was the title of Simian Mobile Disco’s hugely successful debut album?

STARKEY EXCLUSIVE LIVE PERFORMANCE ANNOUNCED

We are very sad to announce that People Under The Stairs have had to cancel all their upcoming UK dates due to unforeseen circumstances. It’s disappointing news for everyone involved, but we think we’ve found a worthy replacement for them in the form of Starkey, America’s foremost dubstep ambassador, who will be doing an exclusive live performance. Starkey gathered early acclaim with hard-as-nails productions like Gutter Music as well as his trailblazing DJ mix Starkbass, but lately he’s been reaping in the plaudits for his recent full-length release out on Planet µ, Ear Drums and Black Holes, including a massive 7.9 review from the notoriously hard-to-please Pitchfork.com. Starkey is set to bring his futuristic brand of sci-fi bass music to London with a stomping live set alongside his MCs of choice – whilst the UK bass music scene is hardly lacking in talent as of late, this is a brilliant opportunity to check out one of the finest dubstep talents from across the pond.

Catch Starkey + MCs at the Deadly Rhythm stage at Cargo on Friday 21st May.

SLEIGH BELLS ANNOUNCE TRACKLIST FOR DEBUT ALBUM “TREATS”

Fresh off tours with Mad Decent taste-makers Major Lazer as well as psych-rockers Yeasayer, Florida duo Sleigh Bells are set to release their debut album “Treats” on May 11th. There was initially some speculation as to whether the album would consist of 11 tracks or 12, so based off this we can assume that the band didn’t manage to get the requisite sample clearance for the 12th. In a recent interview with Stag & Dagger partners FACT magazine, Sleigh Bells alluded to their intentionally skeletal live show set-up – “we don’t really have a lot of equipment, the only thing that really needs to be there is the sound”. Expect big things from their show at the Glasgow leg of Stag & Dagger on May 22nd, and more than anything else, expect it to be loud.

“Treats” tracklist:
1. Tell ‘Em
2. Kids
3. Riot Rhythm
4. Infinity Guitars
5. Run the Heart
6. Rachel
7. Rill Rill
8. Crown On the Ground
9. Straight A’s
10. A/B Machines
11. Treats
