We’re excited about Box Elders. In fact, not only are we excited about them in general, we are specifically super excited about putting on a show for them alongside Mazes, Hygiene and Black Mamba Beat on Wednesday 2nd December at The Greenhouse Effect, Brighton. You should be too, unless you don’t like rock & roll, garage, punk rock, KBD, fuzzy-pop, the Minutemen, cheap beers, dingy basements, smoking terraces, distros, smiling people, dancing or life. All of which are elements integral to this show – either as real physical things or as influences.
SEX IS DISGUSTING - THE RENT BOYS
We’ve been bouncing on my bed to the Rent Boys ever since an eerie stranger came up to me at some sweaty party and recommended them. I didn’t know him, but he clearly understood my taste, because the Rent Boys are it. Sadly, before I could press him for more details, he had vanished in a puff of beer, never to be seen again. I’ll never know who he was and I’ll never be able to thank him.

There was something about the minimal dub-pop, Suicide-esque sound of Dirty Beaches (who happen to be another one of those plural one-man-band bands) that I found magical from the first minute I heard them/him/it.

For those unfamiliar with the denomer Sex Is Disgusting, we are Andy & James and we are a record label based in Brighton. We put out records, put on shows, put out zines and drink beer. Due to our status as two men who decided to press their own records it has been deemed by those at Vice that we should be offered a platform to tell you what music to like once a week. On a Thursday. Works for us. The less people listening to Friendly Fires and the more people listening to The Gories the better.
