We kill Diesel:U:Music this evening at 6 PM

Zappa

Yep, that’s right. It’s time for show two on Diesel:U:Music. In case you just can’t wait and you want to warm yourself up for it like a prize fighter psyching himself up for the purse, then there are still highlights from our last show here. It’s packed full of great records and timeless anecdotes, as well as live music from Lovvers and Mr Andrew Weatherall (who joined us in the studio). You can expect much of the same and more this evening. We have a Live From The Old Blue Last session with Texas grindcore titans Insect Warfare and an interview with garage-gospel-R&B renegade King Khan. If you’d like us to play a song of your choosing, leave a comment below and we’ll consider it. No promises though. Tune in right here. We’re on from 6 - 8 PM.

Vice killed Diesel:U:Music

So, we did the first of our regular shows on Diesel:U:Music Radio on Monday, and considering our collective lack of any real experience in broadcasting live on air it was, by all accounts, a tour de brilliance of radio programming. We played a bunch of records that ran the gamut from OM to Integrity via Hellhammer and Villa Na, as well as a Live From The Old Blue Last session by itinerant lo-fi guys Lovvers. Oh, and Andrew Weatherall dropped by to talk about his new solo record, the late 80s drug revolution and the moment he chose to curtail his psychedelic experimentation. You can listen to highlights from the show here and they even made a video of us shambling around in the studio here.

Fall in love with Lovvers

lovvers

We love Lovvers. They’re the original unnecessarily-repeated-consonant act, before Wavves got hyped as the new Kurt Cobain/Craig Nicholls, Nodzzz charmed us all with their uber-geek pop, and Mayyors, er… well they aren’t that well known for anything yet, but they’re very good.

Anyway, now that they’ve finally released an excellent full-length LP, to some rave and some not so rave reviews, they’re doing they’re first proper UK tour in ages. And to celebrate that fact they’ve sent us an exclusive new track, which they recorded with Jarvis from Woods when they were out in the US earlier this year. It’s awesome! Read more »

London, please welcome Bobbie Marie

bobbie
Anyone heard of Bobbie Marie? I just have. It’s Thomas Bullock of many, many acts you may have heard of, and Rene Love (what a name.) They sound kind of like all the acts James Murphy lists in “Losing my Edge” mixed into one. Or just like Iggy Pop fronting some seminal piano house act I have never heard of . Either way, they’re good. We had a chat with them.

LOVVERS
OCD Go Go Girls

Wichita

I desperately wanted to hate this – everything about this band has always screamed “AVOID” at me in huge elephant letters. However, they bypass the wanky sub-No Age teen thrills of their peers and go straight for a Real Kids/Television/Flamin’ Groovies dirty power-pop jugular. Seems almost entirely engineered for sad, middle-aged record collector scum like me, so clearly they’re never actually going to get any bigger.

Lovvers’ love for the U.S. of A.

lovv

UK garage-punk band Lovvers went to North America earlier this year to record their debut LP with Exploding Hearts/Clorox Girls producer Pat Kearns. They kindly sent us a track to preview on here, so rather than just write, “Wow, aren’t these tracks great?”, we asked their singer Shaun the top ten things they lovved (wayhey!) about the U.S.A. And so he did. Read more »

Sex Is Disgusting - Human Hair

So, I said in our first post that we wouldn’t shamelessly promote our label via this website and instead would offer weekly mp3s, our mind-thoughts from our head-brains and little else. We now find ourselves at a point when we must eat our words. Excepting of course that you cannot really eat a laptop. So, instead, we’ll just say sorry for lying to you and go right ahead shamelessly promoting our label.
