We’ve been featuring a lot of new indie bands on here recently – which is fine, but it’s nice to try something a bit different now and then, isn’t it? So today we’re featuring some dancehall-infused UK urban music by a collective known as the Heatwave. Below you will find a tough dancehall remix of Silverlink’s soca-inspired “The Message is Love” and a mix which expertly tip-toes along the narrow ravine between UK funky and Jamaican dancehall. We’ve had a pretty excellent run of mini mixes so far, if we do say so ourselves. It was looking unlikely that anyone would be able to top Jackmaster’s recent mix, but we think Smutlee has managed it with this 30-minute masterpiece. It features dancehall, juke re-edits, funky, grime, funky re-edits of classic grime and a forgotten breakbeat garage gem.

You may know Bok Bok as one of the guys behind Night Slugs, one of our favourite nights in London. So far they’ve had the likes of Lil Silva, Oneman, Dexplicit, Trouble & Bass and Ikonika come and DJ.
This Friday, 30 January, Night Slugs returns for a one-off at Egg in King’s Cross where they will be playing host to DJ sets from Kode9, Mak 10, Dubplate Malice and Dress 2 Sweat’s Jackmaster.
