After last week’s hark back to the days of proto-metal, courtesy of Fenriz’s majestic Trapped Under Vice, Vol.II compilation, we have another trip back in time, this time (yep, you guessed it) to 1994.

A Fist in the Face of God visits Neseblod Records
Neseblod Records is Oslo’s premier metal and punk record store and also the most insane shop I’ve ever been to. Their collection of records and merchandise is crazy; trying to get through it all was pretty impossible. The story could be five times the size and still be over-stocked. I emailed some questions to Kenneth at Neseblod, who answered them all politely and even recommended a track that best represents their store. Swell guy, I am sure you’ll agree. Read more »

A Fist in the Face of God Meets Aura Noir/Immortal’s Apollyon
Aura Noir frontman and Immortal bassist Apollyon took time out from touring, teaching kids music, and playing in six or seven different bands (he’s lost count) to come to London and meet me for an interview. Here’s some of what we talked about over a few beers (and a lot of Pantera) in The Hobgoblin in Camden last week. By the way, did you know that he played bass for Gorgoroth at the now infamous Krakow show? Well, now you do. Read more »

Okay, so it seems I have overlooked black metal on here somewhat. The reasons are many, however now is the time to bore a new hole in your mind courtesy of Mexico’s Xibalba.

Norway - Taake is Going Straught to Hell
It has been a while since we last caught up with Ørjan Stedjeberg aka Ulvedhin Hoest aka Taake. In the meantime he’s been up to all sorts including a return to jail and pissing off most of Germany including those uptight, fuddy duddy old thrash metal guys Kreator. If you actually like black metal as opposed to sitting on Blabbermouth all day (and we do lots and lots) then the most exciting bit of Taake related news is that he has finally completed album number four. It’s a self-titled effort and the first outside of the arc of his initial three record ‘trilogy’. It sounds bleak, more than a little punky, raw and in thrall to Bathory, Venom and Hellhammer. Which is a good thing. Our buddy Dylan knows more about black metal than you so we got him to ask Hoest some questions. We weren’t sure whether he’d answer them or send us back a burning effigy of our email or something but check it out! He did!
