Rainbow Bridge are a slacker-pop duo who reside in both Olympia, Washington and Portland, Oregon. They write big fuzzy songs with a naivety you could liken to Daniel Johnston. Singer and guitarist Adam Croce released a limited-edition record a few years ago on True Panther under the moniker Broken Strings, which is a total lost gem – you should check it out. We asked Rainbow Bridge a few questions and they responded in their own obscure way.
Vice: So who are Rainbow Bridge?
Rainbow Bridge: Have you ever hummed the word “us”? Rainbow Bridge is composed of Bridget O’Brien Smith and Adam Croce. We introduced ourselves to each other many moons now. After meeting, we found ourselves sharing a roof in Olympia’s Phoenix House. Down in the basement we gathered, conceiving Rainbow Bridge.
What do you do when you’re not conceiving Rainbow Bridge?
When we’re not crafting, we delve into the healing arts. Gratitude, encantada, and rejuvenation weave into a liquid continuum of innumerable experience and expanse. Its shape – we know not. Its form – not its shape. Its intent, a surprise to us – a surprise to us all! Blessed Be! The present finds us preparing audio/visual material for sweet release, as well as practice for our first tour, due in March. We be hitting the rode hummin’.
What inspires this material?
Loom tunes, the collective catalogues of the lads from Liverpool. Mystery Meat from the library magazine. The Carpenters. The Pelvic Tilt 45. SWV - “It’s About Time”.
Thanks guys, that was interesting.
Below is a new track that they sent to us, along with the video for their awesome track “Big Wave Rider”.
