OOH HEAVEN IS A BAND ON EARTH

heaven2

Is it sad to want to spend eternity in a bar? I can’t help but imagine heaven to be a really cool joint where Lester Bangs, Karl Marx and Shakespeare shoot the shit on velvet stools over free beers poured by Ted Danson or Barbara Windsor. This may not be the most thrilling vision of Shangri-La, but it’s more exciting than angels in white robes sitting on fluffy clouds and spinning Joanna Newsome records.

Whatever the infinite possibilities, I doubt many theologians thought of Heaven as a slightly gothic shoegaze band from Toronto, Canada, but here they are. Yes they’re influenced by the scene that celebrates itself; they’re heavy on reverb, distortion and droning guitars. Yes it’s shoegaze – but their impassioned vocals and authentic, under-polished sound separates them from any other band with their head in Shield’s arse today.

They’re releasing a 10″ EP on the consistently great Acephale Label (home to CFCFSalem, Memory Tapes, Air France, etc.) in the near future. For now, listen to the track below and get gazin’.

Heaven, “Huck Finn”
