Menudo were the biggest boy band in Puerto Rico for a long time. They had the same scattergun membership policy as the Sugababes, although rather than internal spats, most members left when their voices broke at one point. Ricky Martin (yes, THE Ricky Martin) was a member at one point too. Like most boy bands, they were also rubbish, but on drugs they might have sounded great. Davila 666 reckon they sound like “Menudo on drugs” and they’re a gnarly garage punk band.

OK, so bands ripping off the Sonics, the Stooges and the Stones has been pretty common ever since, er, ever, but not only were these guys around way before garage blew up again, they’re also Puerto Rican, sing in Spanish and their name basically means “Puerto Rican son of a bitch”. They also write really, really great songs, so listen to the track below and watch the suitably grainy video below that. They have an LP out on In The Red (where else?) and singles coming out on too many labels to mention.
