First there was Veronica Falls – who, if you remember, had absolutely nothing to do with Kirstie Alley – and now there’s Golden Grrrls, who, as far as we can tell, have nothing to do with Bea Arthur. What is it about hazy indie-pop bands who bury their glory under a mountain of fuzz and split their time between worshiping C86 and worshiping second-rate American sitcoms? You could at least call your band Friends or M.A.S.H.
They’re part of a growing number of good new bands from Glasgow: DIVORCE, Ultimate Thrush, We Are Wolves, Plaaydoh, etc. (Not that being a good band from Glasgow is a new thing.) They have a self-released cassette out now, which you can buy at their shows and at the Monorail Music store in Glasgow. Which isn’t much good for most of us, but who’s actually got a tape player anyway? For now, listen to the jangle and noise of the track below.
Golden Grrrls, “Duane Denison (Version 2)”
