We’ve been bouncing on my bed to the Rent Boys ever since an eerie stranger came up to me at some sweaty party and recommended them. I didn’t know him, but he clearly understood my taste, because the Rent Boys are it. Sadly, before I could press him for more details, he had vanished in a puff of beer, never to be seen again. I’ll never know who he was and I’ll never be able to thank him.
As soon as “Ridicule”, the first track on their MySpace, kicked in I was already thinking of a possible future release for Sex Is Disgusting. My desire only grew as I went through each track, and these recordings are little more than rough demos. My mind was spinning at the prospect of hearing them fully mastered and tearing out of my speakers. The other guy who I do S.I.D. with (I forget his name, Mandy maybe?) fully agreed with me that this band were the one that we’d been waiting for (on this side of the Atlantic, at least) for ages.
The Rent Boys do full-on messy garage party rock as good as any of the current US generation (Traditional Fools, Audacity, Coconut Coolouts, Personal & The Pizzas etc., etc., ad infinitum). Seeing as our beloved ogres Black Time seem to have called it a day, they’ve arrived just in time, draped in long greasy hair, lipstick, black lace and glittery sweaters. All we need to do is see them live. I’m pretty confident that they will be awesome and we’ll seal the deal.

I think your missing the real Rent boys from Atlanta who frequently played NYC. Their shows are legendary. The only recently started playing reunion shows a couple years ago. To hear them is one thing- but to experience them is whole other animal. I don’t mind this new band calling them selves “The Rent Boys” but maybe they should do some research on their name.
