Let’s hit the City Center

city

City centres are generally places to avoid – shopping by day and boozing by night. Okay, okay, we all do both, but you know, some people do it in really obnoxious ways. Okay, okay, we all do it in different obnoxious ways, but, well, some of us are pussies, and others are alpha fucks who fight us.

Thankfully this City Center is a musical act. Ryan Howard and Fred Thomas make autumnal, melancholic, ambient pop to file alongside Atlas Sound, Panda Bear, High Places and Washed Out. Fortunately they have enough songwriting nous to stand out from this increasingly large crowd of wistful, melodic noisemakers. Founder of City Center, Fred Thomas, is also in ace indie-pop outfit Saturday Looks Good To Me and thankfully he’s still writing the same brilliant songs, but put through a wash of found sounds, delay and distortion to create some the most lovely harmonious music on the internet.

It’s also well worth checking out their great blog here.

They have an upcoming 4 song 12″ coming out on Troubleman and a 7″ with two tracks, the awesome artwork to which is at the top of this post and was created by this dude.
