I’m in Wales at the moment and it’s wet, so, so wet, and in an attempt to counterbalance my drizzly depression I’m listening to some sunny-sounding music. Well, a band from Australia anyway, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and specifically their record Primary Colours, the second best record called Primary Colours of the decade. Now, a lot of you clued-up blog bastards will know these Aussie punks and their two flawless long-players, but screw you, I’m obsessed with them.
The problem with being Australian is that everyone assumes you’re a bore who goes clubbing in Kentish Town on a Sunday morning and thinks culture is jumping off a bridge with an elastic noose around your feet. Yeah these guys are straightforward, but they’re not classless, they’re just garage punk purists, you know. It’s reliable and honest, kind of like how Australia would like to be perceived.
The label known as Melodic has had the good sense to finally get these records released over in the UK, so go and pick them up and impress your friends. Listen and watch beneath first though.
