Wavves, Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast, Blank Dogs, now this. I sincerely apologise for hitting you with another one-man garage band, but it seems that’s the way things are going these days. I’m guessing the reason these friendless wonders are recording on their lonesome is that they are bored of other musicians meddling with their grand garage vision and just want to get on with it. Although, less tactful people might suggest that they’re just unpopular. Either way, I am happy to sit and listen.
Spectrals is from Leeds, and is actually named Louis. His sardonic Jonathan Richman meets Mark E. Smith vocals loom high over his ace surfy music – music which belongs to the same lineage as Crystal Stilts (although it’s a little less knowingly miserable).
Here’s an exclusive track he sent us, entitled “Rot in Hell”. He has a 7″ and LP coming out on Captured Tracks, plus a four-song cassette on Suplex. He’s also playing a load of shows around the UK soon, so you can see if he gets on OK with some real bandmates.

i love cassettes but it sucks when you can’t play them in the car because it doesn’t have a tape deck. oh how the tables have turned.
