A week of very Christian sun has forced the troglodyte metallers back into the lairs of misanthropic winter from whence they came. Don’t despair just yet young malefic minds, I have uncovered one of South America’s greatest lost treasures, Chile’s Pentagram…
Pentagram formed in Santiago in ‘85 in the midst of General Pinochet’s barabric military dictatorial regime, where they regularly had shows shut down by the megalomaniac police. This was a massive hindrance to their power as an unholy metal force and they only ever played lives shows outside Santiago twice. Similarly, they only ever recorded two demo’s and six tracks in total. It’s not much of a legacy for a band that took the death metal genre so far at a time when thrash was still reaching its peak. This is 80s deathrash at its best.
In 1987 singer ‘Behemoth’ Reisenegger traveled to Belo Horizonte in Brazil to meet with fellow tape traders Max and Igor Cavalera to discuss a possible record deal. Apparently one was signed with Point Rock records, however following his return to Chile he never heard from them again. They disbanded shortly after, playing their final shows in 1988.
Pentagram have reformed for a tour of Europe this summer and will be taking their unholy dealings to London’s very own Underworld on July 21st. Should be a scorcher indeed.

Wow. Tape trading. Sorely missed. I remember getting Pentagram’s ‘87 demo in the post. Always loved Reisenegger’s voice. Still do. There were thousands of demos doing the rounds in those days but only about a dozen that stood out. These lads should’ve persisted a bit longer and hung in there. Sepultura took till their 3rd album to find any kind of form - Pentagram had their sound nailed right from the first demo.

Que buena…
Reisenegger plays in Criminal, another super powerful band, and they’ve got a good number of albums.
