Audacity are four slacker kids from California who play rambunctious, slop-pop garage songs that usually wobble like shopping trolley wheels at terminal velocity. They’re off on tour with Mika Miko this summer in the US. We asked them to introduce themselves over the ether.
Vice: Hello, how did Audacity come together?
Audacity: The band was started during sixth grade in Fullerton California, North Orange County in 2001 by Kyle, Matt and two other guys. During high school, Cameron and Thomas joined and were much better fits. The other two quit due to religious and relationship issues, as we are an anti-God and anti-girl band.
What influenced you to start the band?
When we began we didn’t have many influences, we just made what we thought music should sound like. The only emphasis we had was on making original and creative music. These first few years we only practiced and played our own birthday parties, school carnivals and talent shows. Everyone made fun of us. But these were only our awkward years, and in high school we lost our innocence thanks to Thee Makeout Party. Some early influences were “A Wizard, a True Star” (by Todd Rundgren), Mission of Burma, The Modern Lovers and Pink Flag, but when we started it was just because we were little kids looking for something to do.
Along with Thee Makeout Party, what modern bands are you currently into?
The Rantouls, Danger Strangers, White Night, Nobunny, Bad Antics, The Tuberculosis Boys and anything on Burger Records.
