One of the most consistently under-appreciated bands around at the moment has to be The Sticks. They are the reigning kings of caveman-garage-gunk ‘n’ roll, the lords of post-junk-jerk-wave. Why aren’t we following their private lives in the tabloids yet?
Not since the much missed Country Teasers has a band so good been so overlooked by the British music media. They aren’t the only ones either, not by a long shot (see Black Time, Uncle John & Whitelock, Wet Dog, Shimmy Rivers etc etc and on and on). Shame on us, shame on you.
The now (often) three-piece Sticks have to date only released a couple of CDRs and a split 10″ with Hands On Heads on Upset The Rhythm, so you could be forgiven for not being entirely aware of their oeuvre just yet. However, I hope things are about to change. There is a double 7″ LP coming out on Upset The Rhythm soon, as well as the band’s first full length UK tour with Finally Punk in June. All this should contribute to The Sticks becoming the buzz band of summer 2009. Yeah, right and my name’s Richie Manic.
