flightvicepic111

It seems that the singular vision, unmarred by anyone else’s input or ego is the way to get shit done these days, seeing as all these one (wo)man bands that are popping up all over place are totally great. We’re talking Wavves, Blank Dogs, Dum Dum Girls, U.S Girls and Flight. Read more »

Transparent – My top three new bands

tom-vek

In a month which saw Joaquin Phoenix rapping about packing heat and Ronnie O’Sullivan ranting about getting Simon Cowell into snooker, it made me wish there were a few more troubled geniuses in indie. And then this Tom Vek album promo fell through the letterbox.

I hope one of the following bands turn out to be as seemingly unhinged and incredible as Tom Vek. Read more »

Ying Yangs - Hans Zimmer

yoppppppp

As well as being one of our favourite illustrators (and interviewees) ever, Jiro Bevis knows a thing or two about pop songs. So we cajoled him into supplying us with a song every Tuesday from his library of psych-kraut-disco gems that he sometimes shares with the world on his new blog. Thanks, Jiro! Read more »

Bok Bok mini mix

bok-bok

You may know Bok Bok as one of the guys behind Night Slugs, one of our favourite nights in London. So far they’ve had the likes of Lil Silva, Oneman, Dexplicit, Trouble & Bass and Ikonika come and DJ.

This Friday, 30 January, Night Slugs returns for a one-off at Egg in King’s Cross where they will be playing host to DJ sets from Kode9, Mak 10, Dubplate Malice and Dress 2 Sweat’s Jackmaster.

To get your ears warmed up for Friday, Bok Bok has put together a mix of house, funky and bass-heavy stuff exclusively for our music blog, which you can listen to and download below. Enjoy. Read more »

Black Lips in Escape to Bangalore

6a00d8341c625053ef010536f8f169970c-800wi3

As you may have read, the Black Lips recently ran into a bit of trouble in a certain subcontinent. For those of you rapt in fantasies of stolen passports and tawdry Indian prison sex, we just talked to the guys at their safehouse in Germany. Turns out the whole thing was a little less Midnight Run than a curry-flavoured installment of Chunklet’s Assholes Across America. Read below for Das Skoop.

Homerton Strangler - Comanechi

comanechy1 Amongst other endeavours, such as growing scary moustaches, our buddy Rodaidh McDonald runs the excellent Homerton Strangler blog, is half of the duo behind London’s best Italo party, Cocadisco, and is the manager of XL Recordings’ in-house studio. So we figured he was more than qualified to tell you what to like once a week. Take it away, Rodaidh … Read more »

Busy Signal interview

Right now, it’s a toss up between Mavado and Busy Signal for who our favourite current dancehall artist is. Until Mavado’s new album, Mr Brooks: A Better Tomorrow, comes out next month, Busy just has his nose in front.

Watch the video for Busy’s prison lament, “Jail”, above and then check below for a recent interview we did with him over the phone. Read more »
