Non so se ne hai gia’ sentito parlare, ma il Grime sta spaccando l’Inghilterra e da un momento all’altro spaccherà tutto il mondo. Qui a Vice ci siamo nel bel mezzo da 3 anni quindi abbiamo pensato di raccontarvela un pò prima che il mondo della pubblicità rovini tutto come al solito con le sue stronzate. Già mi vedo una canzoncina di McDonalds fatta da D Double E. Tanto tempo fa (1995-2002), in un regno lontanto lontano (Londra), c’era una scena musicale che si chiamava UK Garage. L’UK Garage era, in superficie, una musica pulita, felice, melodie e liriche da ecstasy, il tutto su una base di bassi pompanti e taglienti ritmi 2-step. Gli amanti dell’UKG si congregavano in locali esclusivi nel sud di Londra, tutti addobbati con vestiti di Moschino e Cavalli, per spendere i guadagni di una settimana in poche ore di champagne sovrapprezzo, e ballare tutta la sera come se la disco non fosse mai morta. Era un sound che esplodeva di ottimismo da post-millennio, e figli di papà, tazzetti, greci, turchi, bianchi e bianche, e più o meno tutti i ragazzi fra i 16 e 30 l’ascoltavano. Le canzoni più popolari iniziarono ad arrivare alle prime posizioni in classifica, i locali divennero marchi internazionali, i video iniziarono ad apparire su MTV, e i media ci si attaccarono come le sanguisughe che sono. Era tutto fantastico, tutti l’amavano, ed erano tutti felici. (In realtà tutta la scena aveva una sottocorrente molto dark, piena di violenza, droghe e blah blah, ma questa é un’altra storia). Poi nel tardo 2001, accaddero un paio di cose che cambiarono tutto. Gli MC, che nella scena garage esistevano solo come presentatori, salirono alla ribalta e crearono crew come la So Solid, che poi conquistò le classifiche. E poi tutta la paranoia post-11 Settembre (aaaah! i terroristi mi vogliono uccidere!) incominciò a penetrare il subconscio mondiale, ci cacammo tutti sotto, e tutt’a un tratto i sentimenti euforici del nuovo millennio vennero rimpiazzati da paure menzogne e paranoie. Ed ecco che l’UKG diventa completamente inutile ed irrilevante. Mentre la prima generazione di artisti Garage se ne stava seduta a lamentarsi e rimpiangere i vecchi tempi, ragazzi di tutta Londra, non arresisi così facilmente, cercarono di tramutare questo sound in qualcose di più attuale. Tracce sotto-prodotte (5 o 6 suoni al massimo), come Pulse X dei Musical Mob, venivano composte su una Playstation con Fruityloops e iniziarono a vendere 10,000 copie. Gli MC e le crew diventarono più famosi ed importanti che i DJ (vedete qualche somiglianza con l‘US Hip-Hop?). Nel 2002, la Heartless Crew, il Pay As U Go Cartel e la Roll Deep erano già diventati i maestri della scena street a Londra, e un diciasettenne di nome Dizzee Rascal divenne eroe nazionale. L’UKG divenne il Grime, la musica più violenta, eccitante e antisociale ad uscire dall’Inghilterra dai tempi del punk. Premi FF>>> fino al 2005 ed ecco che il Grime é esploso fuori da East London, mangiandosi piano piano tutto il paese, ma per una volta tanto se ne sta al di fuori dei radar dei media. Di recente “Forward” di Lethal B é stata vietata nei locali di mezza Inghilterra per via del suo ritornello che incita a tirare pugni in faccia al primo che passa (fa “Pow! Pow! Pow!”) I ragazzi del Grime sono arrabbiati; una rabbia anarchica ed esplosiva che può solo essere il prodotto di un brutto miscuglio fra povertà, disperazione, e un totale menefreghismo. Su un qualsiasi palco potrete vedere fino a 50 MC che combattono, liricamente e fisicamente, per un solo microfono, e a volte tutto ciò va fuori controllo fino a diventare una vera e propria rissa che consuma l’intero locale. Il Grime é l’unica vera risposta Inglese all’hip-hop Made in USA, e dato che non é una scena piena di ex spacciatori che adesso fanno pubblicità alle scarpe da ginnastica, e dato che MTV ne ha più paura che di un orso con la rabbia e l’AIDS, un giorno potrebbe anche rimpiazzarlo del tutto. Tenete gli occhi aperti per gli MC Kano, D Double E, Lethal B e Ears, e i produttori Jammer, DaVinChe e Dexplicit. Fino a poco fa, il problema principale del Grime era la difficoltà nel trovarne dischi al di fuori di zone come East London e Brixton. Di recente, però, l’etichetta di The Streets (679), ha messo su una bella compilation che si chiama Run The Road. (In America esce sotto Vice Records, e non rompeteci i coglioni se ce ne vantiamo.)
