Mentre il resto di East London era impegnato a calcolare quanti cappellini NewEra si sarebbero potuti comprare quando finalmente quel contratto multimilionario sarebbe arrivato, Jammer e Skepta (insieme a Wiley) erano occupati a creare quel suono che i giornalisti bianchi medio-borghesi avrebbero poi definito “grime”. Per anni hanno osservato mc’s cavalcare i loro beat solo per arrivare a firmare dei contratti e spostarsi verso produzioni più commerciali. Col 2006 hanno entrambi deciso di prendere il microfono e pianificato di stabilirsi come i migliori mc’s sulla scena.

Non stiamo parlando di flow o velocità; stiamo parlando di concetti, metafore e rime da battaglia. Molte rime da battaglia.

“The African Hottie” di Skepta e la divertente diss track “Swag Mc Burial” di Jammer aka The Murkle Man danno addosso a mezza scena grime, con la strofa di Skepta che va diretta sulla crew rivale SLK. Tutti quelli che dicono che le sfide non fanno bene, forse è ora che chiudano la bocca.

Vice: Come mai tutto questo fare i nomi?
