DOS & DON'TS

Everybody's got their dicks in a knot about Chinese bootleggers and how they're ruining our movies but I think they did a pretty good job with "Oh God!" Comments/Enlarge | See all

I love the folks who think you can actually fill kids’ brains with a bunch of stuff about respecting differences and avoiding stereotypes, as if the second they’re out the door they aren’t playing basketballrappers and Santa-Jedis at Abu Ghraib. Comments/Enlarge | See all

VICE FASHION - RAP DREAMS

If you know anything about the working class of Brooklyn, the Bronx, or Queens, you know their obsession with child rappers. The same way moms in Wisconsin enter their daughters in beauty pageants and help them with their routines, Bushwick moms enter their sons in rap battles and help them with their rhymes. Brooklyn’s Lil’ Chris Santiago is one of these kids. He’s 10 years old, and his mother is trying to break him into the Christian rap scene.

“ I just say, ‘Yo yo yo / My name is Lil’ Chris / I came to rap about Jesus.”

“ I go to Times Square Church on 51st and Broadway. It’s across from Mars 2112. They say they’ll give you a free space ride there, but you really have to buy some food to get it.”

“ When I first started out, I rapped some ghetto stuff. But then I went out to California and got into Jesus. Now I just rap about him.”

“ My friend Shucky Ducky is making some tracks for me to rap on. He got me rapping at a block party before, but that was back when I was still gangsta.”
