DOS & DON'TS

Hoping you never bump into her again for the rest of your life isn’t a great feeling, but the six hours of completely insane contortionist fucking at her weird apartment with three cats is going to be pretty unforgettable. Comments/Enlarge | See all

DEAR DIARY

AUTHOR: LISA GABRIELE

Tursday night I didn’t do nothing and Friday night I went to the Belle River Jam, where four bands played, including Soldier, Drama, Stripes and The Look. I was having fun flirting with the Look band and I kissed every one of them but ended up right making out with the drummer who was 27 and MARRIED! So he was experienced. Then the BEST of all is Rick got me and Lee and Sherry some acid (Yellow sunshine) and we went to see Journey with Brian Adams. It was my first concert and to me Brian Adams stole the show from Journey he was such a cutie! And today Rick paid extra special attention to me, looking at me and talking to me I love him. Oh my God “cuts like a kinfe” is on the radio gotta go.

April 2001
By Grade 11, I had a permanent callus on the outside of my left index finger from hoisting my lighter in the air at concerts. I saw Aerosmith, Foreigner, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Black Sabbath, Boston, Chicago, Van Halen (almost got “Eddie” tattooed on my upper arm), Rush, ELO, Supertramp. My mother didn’t worry about my drinking and driving, she worried about my driving and listening to WLLZ (“Wheeeelzzzzz Rawks Detroit!”) because I would reflexively close my eyes while hitting the high notes. This one time Sheriff’s “When I’m with yooooooou” almost got me into a head-on collision. My mom was in the car with me and yelled, “Watch out!” so I said “Relax, old lady!” She slapped my face. I was just trying out “old lady” as a joke. My mom and I laughed about that day years later.

This past December, when I moved back to Windsor to take care of her, the only good part about being home was Detroit radio. Especially WLLZ and WNIC. Allan Allman’s “Pillow Talk” show is still fucking awesome. How about this wet dream line up: “I Just Wanna Stop” by Gino Vanelli, “Lovin’ Touching Squeezing” by Journey and “Beth” by Kiss. These played on WNIC while I was heading to the hospital, the night my mom died. Three of my favorite songs in the world, right in a row. Thanks Allan.
