BALLOONS, ORGIES, AND PRETTY COLORSNew Works by John Copeland
| God’s Favorite Mouse, acrylic on canvas, 2009, 54 x 60 inches. |
John Copeland is a masterly artist who’s as comfortable scribbling up a few amusing doodles in pencil on a napkin as he is detailing sweeping scenes with brushes and puddles of oils on a 12-foot canvas. Six days a week, year-round, Copeland toils away hermitlike in his painting studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and, much like God, rests only on the Sabbath to screw around with his motorcycles. Here is a small sampling of what comes of it.
John is exhibiting at London’s Zoo Art Fair in October and he has a solo show at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen in February. Lucky you, Copenhagen.
| You Are the Wind Beneath, 2009, graphite and colored pencil on paper, 25 x 21 inches. |
