There’s a certain combo of facial features and surrounding accessories that screams, “I would be an amazing host for a call-in radio show about relationship advice” so loud even deaf people can hear it.

Do you get the feeling we’re on the cusp of something great? Rap and punk and metal haven’t done shit for us lately and electronica’s offshoots all died in the water, but everyone seems to be at that exact zenith of not giving a shit where greatness has no choice but to explode. One of the biggest bummers about this place is every time you see a group of dickheads you don’t know if they’re Mad Max ginos or a gang of fucking murderers who just got through turning a guy into sand. It gets to the point where the only time it’s safe to take the piss is when you’re looking at a photo of them and writing about it in a magazine. “Hey New Wave Polacks, what are you, the bouncers from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? Ha ha ha. What’s that? What did you just say? Huh? Ha! I thought so. Fucking chickens.”Comments/Enlarge | See all

This is Norwegian black-metal band Vomit in their practice space. Vomit was formed around ’82 by a few 13-year-old scumbags. They were also early members of Mayhem (who shared this very space with them). Vomit’s rehearsal demo Rot in Hell was released on tape in ’87, and it’s beautiful—one of the greatest primitive releases of all time. The original tape sells for hundreds of dollars, but in 2006 Neseblod Records reissued it. Still Rotting, Vomit’s best-of album, came out in 2007.
