Luke:
So, this is where you were attacked? What happened?
It was just a stabbing. Basically, I was walking along and some boys drove past and seen me and made a phone call to the others who were waiting for me and jumped me and stabbed me.
How did you feel afterwards?
It damaged me emotionally, you know. It made me feel bad. I still feel it, y’know?
Was the person prosecuted?
I still didn’t report it to the police. There was no point.

Michael:
So, tell me about when you were attacked.
Well, basically a few days ago, I was coming out of a club in Southend and a little argument broke out with my mates and some other people and then someone stabbed me in the back.
How are you now? Has it made you wary of going out at night?
I’m alrightI’ve been stabbed before a couple of times. I don’t like to be on my own though. If I see a group of people, I’m wary something will happen. I feel I need to carry a knife to protect myself.Did you report it to the police?
Nah, I don’t believe in the police. Most of the police I don’t trustI’ve been searched by them before and then rushed and beaten up and taken to the police station. I’m just happy that I’m okay and I don’t think they would have found the person anyway.

Amber:
When were you attacked?
It was Father’s Day last year. I got into a fight with a girl near Latimer Road tube station and her friend punched me in the nose and then they took my phone off me.
How did you feel afterwards?
I was upset, you know. It was really upsetting for me.
Did you report it to the police?
I didn’t wanna get the police involved.

Stasious:
Tell me about the last time you felt you were the victim of a crime.
What happened was the police started to harass me and then I got beaten up. They said they could smell weed around me so they started grabbing me, then threw me on the floor and punched me in my face.
What do you think of the police now?
I don’t like the police any more. When I see them, I run. I went and reported what they had done to me and they made a record of my injuries, but nothing came of it.
Did you report it to the police complaints dept?
No. What’s the point? |

Shanika:
So, you were mugged?
Yeah, I was walking along with my phone when somebody came from behind and grabbed me and took my phone off me.
Did you tell the police?
I gave a description to the police and I told them that he was wearing a grey tracksuit, but there’s nothing they can do. I didn’t get a good look, so they could be looking for anyone.
Are you scared to walk alone since you were attacked?
I haven’t got confidence on the road anymore. I keep my phone on silent and won’t answer it in public so no-one knows I’ve got it. |
