DOS & DON'TS

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, whoa. Not trying to tell you what you can and can’t do with that face, but maybe you should leave the tricycling through the Red Light district in a raincoat to someone a shade less skeezy. Right now you’re making my ass clench so hard I’m worried my next dump will be glass. Comments/Enlarge | See all

Spanish crusties are everywhere in London at the moment and they’re looking FABULOUS. At the Insect Warfare show at the Old Blue Last we had dogs on strings sitting on bar stools, ordering pints. The rest of the crowd looked like this, from late 20s 7s with Anti Cimex shirts to amazing dykes with Punisher throat tattoos. Comments/Enlarge | See all

KALI HOLLOWAY is the lead singer for the Affair. She has a killer voice that falls somewhere between Poly Styrene and Freda Payne. Basically, she can really belt it out. The Affair’s debut album comes out on The First Time Records in early 2006 and we are very excited.

Ruffle top: I got it out of a bag of clothes my friend was throwing away. Of all the weird rumpled stuff she had, that was the only thing I wanted. It’s good to wear onstage because it holds my boobs in place.

Kali tells us about some of her favorite stuff:

VINTAGE RED BOOTS
The first time I wore these I tripped and fell in a bodega and got a big bruise and a scratch down my nose. I totally ate it.

KENNETH COLE SAMPLE JACKET
I have a friend who’s a designer for Kenneth Cole and he made this for one of their fashion shows. I like that a model wore it on the runway, because I eat a lot and it fits me fine.

"SID LIVES" T-SHIRT
When I was 17, I used to work at this punk clothing store called Junkman’s Daughter in Atlanta. I would wear, like, red fuzzy creepers and stuff like that. I remember getting this shirt there and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. Look at the pit stains on it!
COCKTAIL DRESS
I bought this when I was 16 and I still wear it all the time. I wore it to a wedding recently. It’s one of those things you just wear forever.

VINTAGE 70s DRESS
I got this at a vintage store on Rivington Street called Narnia. It’s a little 70s-mom-in-the-rec-room, but I really like it. It looks sort of like a prog-rock record cover.

VINTAGE FUR AND LEATHER JACKET
My mom got this for me at a flea market. She thought it was hideous—she said it looked like a gorilla suit. It is sort of Mighty Joe Young, but I still like it.

SILVER MULES
My friend was visiting from London recently and she left these here so now they’re mine! They’re like two sizes too small but I love them.

CHILDHOOD PICTURE
This picture of me survived a flood and a fire. I love it because it reminds me of how I used to have to dress as a kid in the South.
