DOS & DON'TS

Look, it’s been a long week. If you need me I’ll be down at the park having a couple Buds with Professor Barnabus P. Galaxicon and his Splendiferous Brain-O-Scope. Comments/Enlarge | See all

Now that Ryanair is making transatlantic flights it’s going to be interesting to see how far the BAs and Virgin Atlantics of this world are gonna go to keep their customers. Comments/Enlarge | See all

RAW EGGS
In theory, eating raw eggs the morning after a big one fills your crippled system with cysteine which destroys the free radicals that make you feel ill. We’re not sure about the salmonella angle on this, but you will feel better for an hour or two at least.

EATING BEFORE YOU GO OUT
The fat in food protects your stomach from the damaging effects of alcohol so you are better off eating a fatty meal than a healthy one. Eating directly after drinking is a good move too – unless you eat a shitty kebab and add food poisoning to the morning of unpleasantness which awaits you.

WATER
A hangover is caused by dehydration. So, genius, to avoid having a hangover you may want to force yourself to drink a pint or two of water before falling asleep. Another trick is to drink salty water the morning after since your body absorbs salty water faster than pure water. It tastes like shit but it will fix you up.

FRESH AIR
This may sound like something your mum would tell you to do in an irritatingly holier-than-thou way, but going for a walk will speed up the metabolism and help your body destroy pollutants. Chances are you won’t ever bother with this and will lie about wallowing in self-pity.

HAIR OF THE DOG
This makes you look hard and does numb the pain of a comedown, but it’s not a great long-term solution. Although it reduces the pain of alcohol withdrawal symptoms, it also takes you down the road to a place called alcoholism.

VALIUM
If you are really into the swing of drinking dangerous volumes then you may be prescribed valium to counter the withdrawal symptoms. On the down side, if you get hooked and then suddenly stop taking it, you risk a seizure as your brain goes into overdrive.

SOLPADEINE MAX
Don’t mess about with Solpadeine Extra or Plus – they are nowhere near as good as this. Once you work out your dosage they can save the day, but don’t eat a handful on an empty stomach because you will end up vomiting all day and shaking like a shitting dog.
