DOS & DON'TS

I was so wasted I needed to be carried home and I asked these guys if they would do it and they said, “Sure,” and I said “Bullshit,” (I was wasted) and they showed me some card of a guy who carried baby Christ across a river and I was like, “OK, OK, I got it,” and fell into their arms.

Sometimes when you see these long, droopy sweaters it's so hard not to picture her at your house on Sunday morning wearing nothing but that and white socks the only way you can muster the strength to look away is to focus on the part in Animal House where nude Donald Sutherland is wearing the same thing.

DON'T

Older >
Some people think it’s stupid that Rastas are allowed to get stoned, but how else are you going to convince yourself that God was a guy who waited until 1942 to outlaw slavery, lost his country to the Italians, ordered hundreds of civilian massacres, and somehow missed out on the fact that 50,000 of his subjects were starving to death before being deposed and buried under a toilet?

When looking at it for the second time, i agree. It is not critic aimed at ethiopia as a nation but at the people who believe he was God. It is absurd to even near the thought that he was devine. He did way to many bad things.
But at the same time did he function as a hope for impoverished black people as a symbolic figure for hope and i can understand that people in a different era with a dark history of supression based on skincolor, slavery etc easily throned the only black leader of an african country in the middle of the colonization. But it’s okey.
Freedom of speech & write doesn’t demand that you show empathy and a broader understanding. Is Reggie Bush and George Bush related?

Dear Ignorant
I am a student at the university of Oslo. The italian invasion of ethiopia is not looked upon as a part of WWII, but generally referred to as the second italo-abyssinian war. The generally accepted start of WWII is 1 sept, 1939. Haile Selassie did not spend his exile time in Palestine but Bath,England.
It may apparently seem like my statement :"Ethiopia was not colonized by white people who tought they owned the world" is subjective and irrational. Yes it is a very personal based statement but not not necassarily rooted in fantasy world.
In 1914 every single independent state in present africa was colonized by a european power. Besides ethiopia.
Ethiopia defeated Italy in their first attempt in 1896. Italy invaded the only sovereign state in Africa again almost 40 years later. They met military resistance on strategic points on their way to the capital and defeated that resistence. No question about that. Italy was condemned from The League of Nations because of the invalidity of the invasion(illegal use of chemical gas according to the geneva protocol)
As late as in 1938 came the first official note from england and france confirming italian domination over ethiopian territory. The rest of the league of nations did not stand behind this.
And your country U.S.A NEVER acknowledged Ethiopia as an Italian colony.
A typical african colony was tapped for resources and inhabited by europeans like the extreme examples of diamonds in sierra leone and white people establishing homes in south africa. The length of the colony time was also relatively long(Ghana under Britain from 1874-1957) Nigeria for instance had europeans on its soil stretching all back from 17th century. Ethiopia was militarily occupied and faced clear defeats still a formal surrender on paper did never find place. Relatively unsuccessful guerilla attacks on italian servants took place regularly. Ethiopia lost many soldiers, most of them fighting with spartanic with simple weapons like spears and basic guns against advanced rifles and deadly gasses.
Italy earmarked huge amounts of money annually for the purpose of constructing ethiopias infrastructure. I am guessing the second stage was to molest the country and tap it for valuable sources. Before this contribution had reached a notable phase their time came to an end. Great Britain supported local troops and defeated the italians. Considering the speeches Mussolini and other Italian leaders held about the dream of Italian supremacy over ethiopia, and how they were gonna mould the country like they wanted they did not quite fulfill that dream with ethiopia.
Occupation, a try on building infrastructure to establish a colony and then defeat was the Italian job.
Calling me a half-literate retard is just infantly. I wrote that paralympic joke to give a metaphore about how unconstructive it is for the advancement of the lifes we are living to debate on internet.
Enjoy understanding the nuance i represent or dissecting my words

Wait what? Whose control was it under when the Italian military was occupying the entire country and Haile Selassie was chilling on the beach in Tel Aviv? Maybe you could ask your african studies professor at "the university" to point you in the direction of some legitimate historical sources.

By the way, there’s some choice irony in a half-literate retard ripping on the paralympics.

My point was:Ethiopia was not colonized.
The country was not under italian control.
Yes it is correct that Haile Selassie fled the country when the italians invaded the capital. I was born in ethiopia and raised in norway. I am an african studies student at the university with focus on ethiopia. I think i know more about this and i do have more qualified sources than the easily edited wiki page you referred to.
’Nobody talked about colonies’. Oh no?
"Lost his country to the italians" prints images in my head of greasheads commanding orders throughout the very land. Even though that was not the case.
That why i wrote ethiopia was not colonized off any white men who tought they owned the world.
I end my disking up of arguments here.
Because debating on internet is like competing in paralympics.
Even if you win you have still lost something.

No one said anything about colonies. The caption says that Selassie lost his country to the Italians, which given the facts that they held the capital and occupied the entire country from British Sudan to the coast of Somalia (I’ve got no clue where you pulled that 1/3 figure from) pushing Selassie into exile in Palestine, I’d say is accurate. By your standards Lebrun didn’t "lose" France, since the Nazis only occupied the top part of the country.
