Andrew Stole
How long have you been skating and shooting in New York?
I have been skating in NY for over 20 years. My friends and I used to come down to skate the Brooklyn banks when we were teenagers. I have been shooting in NY since I moved here 15 years ago.
What do you like most about photographing in New York, as opposed to any other city in the world?
I love how the spots are always changing. Even the skateparks in NY sometimes aren’t around for long. It is important to document these places while they are still here. Plus the skaters in NY are just so amazing. On any given day in NY you can go to pier 62 and see people killing it.
Who have been some of your favorite people to photograph in New York and favorite moments?
I love photographing friends I meet through skateboarding. Lately I have been skating with Marty Fedor, James Rewolinski, John Grigley and Armando Roura.
Any more stories about skating back in the day with Ivory and others at 108 and other spots?
It was always just great to see sessions at riverside skatepark. Especially when Jim Murphy and Andy Kessler were skating the ramp. Back when Andy ran the park it was really fun. I met a lot of friends there and everyone came out for the contests. I have a lot of great memories from that place.
