Hopefully you’ve heard of Kaisik Wong, but it’s possible that you haven’t, which is a disaster and kind of surprising because he used to hang out with Steven Arnold, The Cockettes and Salvador Dali and whenever he went out he’d dress up as a monkey king. He’s not the kind of person society forgets.
Wong was one of the leading innovators of San Francisco’s late-60s fashion for art to wear. He was obsessed with the Aquarian prophecy (think this) and designed outfits for gods and goddesses. Basically, he was a complete hippie and mixed just about every tribal and ethnic reference you could imagine into the clothes he built for the disco scene and stars like former Cockette, Sylvester.
