Last time Topshop Unique’s show was way ahead of the curve. They milked the techno-hippie, crop circles and trance vibe. The grey and fluoro designs further convinced me that one day high street fashion will be more fashion-forward than the designer labels.
Before the sixties, only the bespoke, handmade couture stuff was considered proper fashion and only the richest people in the world got to be trend-setters. Then Yves Saint Laurent launched his Rive Gauche “Ready To Wear” line. Eventually “Ready To Wear” became more fashionable than couture and no one looks at the couture shows to see what’s in fashion anymore. This means that anyone with a credit card can be a fashion trailblazer.
This season’s Topshop Unique collection might not make Marc Jacobs or Miuccia Prada redundant just yet, and peeps on normal incomes will have to carry on buying secondhand clothes if they want to be any sort of fashion revolutionary. However, the rest of the population will love it.
Vice photographer Jamie Taete was disturbed by meat being prepared for the guests. Why was this on show?
