Flat tops are rad Komakino but what the fuck is univocity?

Frederico and Jin are two London-based designers from Rome and Korea respectively. Together they are Komakino and they make the cheery technicoloured dream clothes you can see in these pictures. If designers were bands they’d be Front 242.

This collection was apparently inspired by “totalitarianist [sic] architecture” and was concerned with “the imminent doom of certain flawed systems.” Radical eh? Well, rad at the very least - check out their model’s  flat-tops and moustaches, they’re pretty rad.

When I asked Komakino why they liked black, they said they liked the “univocity of black,” I looked it up, I couldn’t decide if I was stupid or their univocity was bollocks. Maybe wearing black can mean anything, because it is always the same, or maybe it always means the same thing…ugh.

In Komakino’s studio right now is Kenneth Anger’s Hollywood Babylon, a brochure for Cairo and the music of Les Joyaux De La Princesse.

But this is Front 242, Komakino’s hoodies and trousers definitely sound more like this.

Komakino also said they had Yukio Mishima’s books in their studio. The probably-gay-but-married, samurai-obsessed, three-time Nobel Prize nominated author committed ritual suicide through Seppuku, which is basically how Elliot Smith did it, only with a bigger blade.

These are some of Komakino’s designs you can buy now. Aren’t those just the most doom-laden, suicidal, univocal shorts you ever saw?
