Baby, it’s cold outside – so let’s talk summer
Since I fashion edit a men’s website, I’d be nothing if not rude were my first post not of a testosterone-saturated nature. Yes, I know no one is thinking of summer right now, but just shut up for a minute and look at what’s to look forward to for spring/summer 2009.
Leisure Seeker: Christopher Shannon
Shannon is a Scouser, so it’s kind of fitting that his aesthetic is football terrace-inspired. Now, you’d think sportswear doesn’t offer much scope for cut, but the attention to shape and angular lines in his S/S 09 collection is something perhaps only the most discerning of hooligans will appreciate. Check out his t-shirt and hoodie collection in collaboration with Judy Blame, which is available at b store.
Goths Ain’t Just For Winter: Julius
Japanese designer and label boss Tatsuro Horikawa abides by the mantra of not just creating clothing but rather “creating and contributing to a person’s total lifestyle and existence.”
Quite. Anyway, black is always the new black for Julius, as every collection is dans noir. Leather and mesh hang gloomily in layers, while deconstructed tailoring and big-ass baggy shorts appear almost warrior-like. Medieval leather caps and shrouds keep things even moodier still. Who said summer should be joyful?
Neon It’s OK To Like: Romain Kremer
Don’t be afraid, this isn’t another hellish Day-Glo revival, nor is it bonkers for the sake of being bonkers. However, Paris-based Romain Kremer does score points for sheer gall. At his S/S 09 show, acid neon dresses (with a bad case of VPL) gradually mutated into hybrid neo-gladiatorial cyber sportswear. Brave, confused, absurd, but fucking amazing.
