As guestimated, the opening for Ryan McGinley's new show at Team Gallery was a madhouse. The gallery was packed with Who-at-Cinncinati levels of kids and "art journalists," spilling out into and eventually completely blocking off Grand Street. Despite the crowding everyone we saw was pleasant, jovial, and non-shovey. Moreso than that, everybody was dressed a bazillion times better than we ever will. And the haircuts... Anyways, Ryan came out from the back about halfway through the party to mingle with folks for half an hour. Then, per usual, the cops and fire marshal showed up and asked Ryan to tell everyone to "move along then." And so we did (slowly). Our favorite celebrity sighting of the night was that noise-musician Foetus, and our favorite moment of the night was some dowager across the street yelling into her cell phone "I don't know, there's some sort of art thing happening I guess... but there are just people everywhere [this part hissed] dressed like HIPSTERS." About the art, all we can say that we haven't a million times already is Ryan sure knows some well-hung dudes. Jesus Christmas.
