FRED COLE Q & A TOMORROW

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Fred Cole is hands-down the greatest million-year-old we know. There are plenty of goons who’ve been making music since the 60s, but unlike your standard Mike Love or Manzarek, Fred has weathered the chronal storm without turning into a bulbous, flaccid parody of a joke of his younger self. He’s kept pace from the Lollipop Shoppe days through Dead Moon’s however-many-decades-long, insane reign of glory and into Pierced Arrows’ present domination of all younger bands (which is basically just all bands).

Tomorrow he’s doing a Q&A about the new Pierced Arrows (that we’re releasing, BTW), so if Ian’s tender interrogation of him and Toody on Soft Focus left you with any nigglers, submit them here and watch live tomorrow to see if Mr. Cole responds to them.

HELLO PIERCED ARROWS, NEWEST BAND ON VICE RECORDS

11

We at VICE like our music tough. We were bummed when Dead Moon called it quits a few years back, but Fred and Toody simply found a new drummer and started Pierced Arrows, a band, they say, that makes “MUSIC TOO TOUGH TO DIE.” In fact, we’re so psyched on Pierced Arrows that we went ahead and signed the band. To celebrate this announcement, we’re allowing you exclusive listening rights to “Paranoia,” a track off their forthcoming badassly titled Descending Shadows, which we will release in February. (That’s the cover art up there.) While you’re waiting out the long cold winter, rationing out this song’s frog flesh vocals and buffalo hide drums so you don’t wither to your death, you can check out an interview we ran with Pierced Arrows last year here, and watch Ian Svenonius interview with the couple on VBS’s Soft Focus here.
