Today I came into work wearing an upside-down cross necklace and the rest of the office laughed at me. I said, “After spending Passover at a Catskills resort with my family, I think Satanism might be the religion for me!” That’s the kind of old-world zinger they tell in the Catskills. But the real reason is that I have been rereading all my old Anne Rice books from when I was a teenage goth and wow, they are still awesome! The Vampire Lestat is my favorite one because that’s the one where you learn the whole history and even the origin of how vampires came to be! And it was in ancient Egypt! And also there were druids involved and I fucking love druids!

The British Journal of Photography has virtually dedicated their latest issue to Vice. Highlighting the work of our contributors - people like Terry Richardson, Ryan McGinley, Dash Snow, Tim Barber, Richard Kern, Alex Sturrock and Jamie-James Medina - they go on to describes us as “the most eclectic and influential magazine of the decade.” Awww, thanks guys!

SEATTLE - THE MUSLIMS

Tonight the Muslims are playing in Seattle. No, not everybody in the world who practices Islam, you goof, the band from San Diego that makes nice taut garage pop a la the Virgins, a la maybe Sam Champ? I don’t know, a la a lot of bands, all right? Despite looking like the type of guys who would hang out with my younger brother (who just got a nine-inch-tall oak tree tattooed around his neck and shoulders), they are all stand-up dudes and their new record has been gently kicking our ass ever since it showed up here in a plain white sleeve with bullet-holes in it and we were like, “Did they actually shoot holes in all their record covers?” Turns out yes.

Stockholm Transport’s lost property room is a labyrinth crammed with misplaced stuff; from bags, scarves and books to the odd harpoon or hand gun. We talked to Bengt Widberg, who’s a bit like the Charon of the Lost & Found Underworld but a bit more cuddly. He’s been reuniting missing items with their rightful owners for over a decade. We were hoping to hear stories about severed limbs or lost souls, but it seems the Swedes are quite responsible with their belongings.

As the word of Albert Hofmann’s death slowly makes its way across the blog circuit, our hearts go out to the capital of the Lone Star Republic which has lost the patron scientist of its only observed holiday unrelated to secession, and our heads go "Jesus Christ, he was still alive?" Not that it’s at all what he would have wanted (he hated Timothy Leary and the hippies for pilfering LSD from the Man), but in honor of the occasion here is part one of perhaps the closest approximation to actual tripping ever captured on video, Ryan Trecartin’s "A Family Finds Entertainment."

It’s a coffee-table sex manual by the fucking "sexperts" at nerve.com (shudder) full of overcomposed pictures of smiling people pretending to hump interspersed with health-class diagrams for such corny sexual techniques as "Rhythm is Gonna Get Her," "Let’s Twist Again" (which perpetuates the myth that guys like having their dick turned like a doorknob when you’re jerking them off), and "Girl on Top." Take a wild guess how that last one works.

The problem with this as a burn is if you’re already going to the trouble of creating a blog, can you not spend a couple extra minutes to flesh it out with a couple of jokes or even just spellcheck the title? We’re not saying you need to come up with an entire backstory for the profile and fake archival entries about Kruder Dorfmeister’s new side-project, but typing "sup sup suckas" in caps and calling it a day is a pretty paltry offering as far as razzes go. At least he kept painfullyboringaustrianlaptopguy.blogspot.com free for someone less lazy.

Vice: What’s your dream job? Is it to work in racing in the UK?

Bob Nastanovich: I’d love to. Over there they have American horse racing on television, and the people who analyze it seem pretty second rate. I’d love to somehow position myself to get a job like that. Also, Americans can now bet on English racing in the morning through the TVG network. And if that were ever to become more popular, I’d love to analyze English racing because I’ve been to 55 of the 60 English racecourses. It’s been my hobby for the last 20 years. I feel like I know as much about English racing as any American.
