But punk is still a cultural driving force and there are many things that prove that. Punk has gone beyond the ’punk&destroy’ attitude of the 77 scene. Emos don’t understand that ’emo’ existed previously as just ’melodic punk’ or ’melodic hardcore’. They tend to think that they’re an independent musical scene, but they have everything to thank punk for it’s existence. Emos are just kids trying to be cute. Punks are just kids trying to be badass. I guess that’s why they hate each other so much. There’s no such thing as cute in badass.
