 | On 2009-09-28 13:24:16, Taylor, commented on this article: SDM is a great film from almost every technical angle you could take. I’m getting more and more into this style of shooting. The from-the-hip feel. I can’t remember any shots that used a steadycam or tripod. Of course, I could be wrong but it seemed to all be handheld shots.
I used to be more into the Kubrick aesthetic where everything is framed perfectly. Not that I hate that now but I think the two styles make for two totally different feelings. When you see Kubrick and P.T. Anderson’s films with these majestic static shots you feel like you’re watching it. When you see something like SDM or most of the war films of late you feel like you are right there in the middle of it. |

"It’s nearly impossible to enforce laws that nobody really cares to have enforced in the first place."
Who is it that doesn’t care about this? Is Brazil really this far behind because this isn’t the idea I had of the country and it’s saddening to think it might be true. I know big business screws the little man everyday but wiping out an entire tribe is something on such a huge level I can’t believe anyone would ignore it. |

New Orleans and Detroit simply cannot be put in the same boat here since New Orleans was the result of a natural disaster and Detroit was the result of negligence. Not to say New Orleans didn’t already have it’s problems. I have friends there and they tell me all the time how fucked up the local government is - we’re talking about the city that re-elected Nagin, for goodness sake! BUT, back to the original point - at some point the federal government needs to throw in the towel on saving cities and refocus on the ones that are working. Detroit may be beyond saving now. We’re already in a recession and pumping more funds to a corrupt and failing city probably isn’t the best investment at the moment. |
